Dreamscape media are manufactured to strict tolerances to assure that the base color and print characteristics of our materials are consistent from lot to lot and identical within a specific lot. This is your assurance that the color you print will be reliable from roll to roll within a lot of material.
A sudden shift in color while the printer is running is most often related to failure of jet ports within the print head array. Depending on the number of passes used as well as the interlace method, this kind of color shift may be accompanied by some visible banding indicating the jets that have failed. In some cases, however, the jet failure may cause a color shift before banding becomes evident. If you experience this, the first thing to do is to make sure all of your ports are firing and no ports are deflected.
To help resolve this:
1) stop the job. No sense in trying to recover the print as it is already off color.
2) Do not run a cleaning but IMMEDIATELY run a jet test. This will show you the condition of your jets as they were used in printing.
3) Run a cleaning then test jets again to determine if this resolves the problem. If it does, you may need to insert regular cleaning cycles within your print job. Most printers have a provision for this. If cleaning does not help, you may need to replace a damper or even a print head.
Contact your equipment service for troubleshooting advice for your specific equipment. Most printers and rip software provide the option to print color bars in the gutter. This may help prevent jet failure during a run by exercising jets that may not be used in part of an image.
