Under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), standard commercial wallcoverings, including both traditional Type II vinyl and PVC-free substrates are legally classified as "Articles."

OSHA defines an "Article" as a manufactured item that:

  1. Is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture.

  2. Has an end-use function dependent upon its shape or design.

  3. Under normal conditions of use, does not release hazardous chemicals or pose a physical or health risk to individuals.

Because wallcoverings remain solid, non-reactive materials throughout handling, installation, and daily use, they do not present chemical hazard risks associated with liquids, powders, or gases. Consequently, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documents are officially exempt and not issued for finished DS wallcovering substrates.

However, while we do not carry SDS documents, DreamScape is committed to complete material transparency and environmental safety. In place of an SDS, we provide full transparency and compliance documentation for project submittals, through the following documents:

HPD: Health Product Declaration—discloses chemical ingredient transparency and health impact evaluations.

Declare Label with Red list free status: The Declare Label serves as a "nutrition label" for building products. It offers full transparency by disclosing 100% of the chemical ingredients and raw materials used to manufacture the wallcovering substrate. Both of these products carry Red List free status, meaning they avoid the "worst in class chemicals". Specifying Declare Red List Free materials directly contributes to green building qualification under LEED v4/v4.1 (Building Product Disclosure and Optimization - Material Ingredients) and the WELL Building Standard.

EPD: Environmental Product Declaration - Third-party verified life cycle and environmental impact data prepared in accordance with ISO 14025. Terralon has an EPD.
